VNC Free Edition Question (details)?
I set up RealVNC free edition on my computer and my grandpa’s computer. I installed it on his and set a password and I let any computer access it with the right password. I know for me to connect, I need to have him run “start” then “programs”, “realvnc” then “user mode” then “run user mode”. I also have his external IP and I have allowed Windows Firewall to allow VNC. Now, for me to connect to his computer, what do I have to run? Any answers would be great! Thanks!

admin answers:
The viewing computer must have the VNC Server and Viewer. The computer the viewing computer is viewing – if that made any sense at all – only needs to be running the server.
I was going to put up a video tutorial on YouTube using a diagram I made. The diagram can be found here: http://aqzonehi.webs.com/Images/VNC.jpg
If you are looking at the diagram, the blue computer is the viewing computer, it is the computer that will be viewing the red computers. The blue computer has both a VNC server and viewer installed while the red computers only need the server. I forgot to include one more thing, VNC only works on a network. So once you leave your grandpas network, you can no longer use VNC to view his computer. If he comes to your house and on your network, it might not also work, even though you both on the same network, the IP’s may have changed. You can manage IP’s by enabling DHCP on a router.
VNC – Virtual Network Computing
If you want the VNC server to startup on its own on your grandpa’s computer create a shortcut to the exe file and cut and paste it to the Startup folder (Windows). Restart the computer and check that it automatically starts up the next time he logs in. NOTE, unless you changed the settings, the server icon will be visible in the system tray.
Back on track. Where do you get the VNC viewer? It should have came in a pack unless you downloaded and installed an individual service. If so, you will have to go back to where you got the VNC system from and download the viewer.
If you want your grandpa to also be able to view your computer, then you can install the viewer on his computer as well, so now he will also have both a server and viewer.
Mixing:
In most cases you can mix a VNC system. You can be using a RealVNC server then a Tight VNC viewer, and it still might work. Although, mixing is not recommended.
Port Forwarding:
Forget it. You should not have to.
In conclusion, all you need to run now is a viewer. It seems as if you have everything else intact.
