Help With VNC Client?
ive been going through Faq’s and documentations but i cant seem to figure out how to connect to my VNC Server
i need to know everything there is to know about VNC
i.e what do they mean by host name.
i just need steps on how exactly to set it up
Using Tight VNC

admin answers:
The host name is the computer name of any machine. First you need to install vnc on the machine you want to control. Then either start the vncserver from the start menu, or use the admin tab to install it as a service, this way it runs every time the machine starts. When started the first time it will ask you to set a password. You then need to open the appropriate ports in the firewall. 5800 for the browser based connection, 5900 for the client based connection. Install it on your own machine. You then run the vncviewer from the start menu, enter the “host name” of the computer you are connecting to, or alternatively it’s ip address.
When the connection succeeds you wil be asked for the password. The other way is to open your browser and enter http://hostname:5800, again the ip address can be used. This will again ask for the password. Be careful, if you had to ask about the hostname you are obviously inexperienced, you can trash the remote machine if you get careless, as easily as you can your own if you touch system files.

John asks…
How can I get VNC to work right on our LAN?
We just got a new Netgear WNR3500L for our network, and we’ve just set up a media center PC. I’ve installed Mythbuntu on it, and I want to be able to control it from my Ubuntu computer. I’ve tried several VNC clients, and have properly set up VNC on the targeted PC, but whenever I try to connect, it says “no route to host, unable to connect”, and it’s frustrating. Is there anything I can do?

admin answers:
Are you using the internal ip address? You have to open up a port or use UPNP if you are using the external address.
If you are using internal, maybe try to telnet to that port, see if it is truly listening or not. Might need to disable any firewalls if u have one.

Laura asks…
NEED VNC SOFTWARE (able to build client applications; excluded Remote Support System, TeamViewer)?
I need a software which allows you to control client computers. The software should be able to build its client application: introduce ip, port [, proxy settings] [, usr, pwd], maybe able to detect proxy settings at runtime / to allow client-side proxy configuration.
freeware software is a best choice
please do not answer with TeamViever (www.teamviewer.com), Remote Support System (http://www.remotesupportsystem.com), VNC‘s that require server installation / deployment / unzipping and configuration, applications which require a internet browser, applications which use online services.
best answer (based on workability of the application) will get what it deserves.
do not bluff, you will be bad-rated.
thanks
guess what: noone even mentioned UltraVNC SC (single-click) used by ……….. which has a built-in repeater, a nat2nat translator etc etc etc
you just customize the server part (add all the needed details), give it to the client and start your vnc client in listen mode on a specific port.
when the client launches the server, the server itself tries to connect to the ip and port specified wihthin at build time.
guess what: noone gets a “best answer”

NEED VNC SOFTWARE (able to build client applications; excluded Remote Support System, TeamViewer). help?
no good answers for question http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20061218015429AAveRA1
Reposting question:
I need a software which only needs to be installed on my computer and which allows you to control client computers. The software should be able ( !!! CRITICAL FEATURE !!! ) to build its client application (exe file that you send to the client) which should include my ip address, the port number that my server is configured to listen to, eventually user and password.
applications should be like Remote Support System 1.7.1
freeware software is a best choice
please do not answer if you want to recommend me TeamViever (www.teamviewer.com), Remote Support System (http://www.remotesupportsystem.com), VNC‘s that require customer-side server installation / deployment / unzipping / configuration, applications which require a internet browser, applications which use online services.
thank you
best answer will be rewarded with 10p + free remote service when time allows me.

Go to http://sourceforge.net and input “VNC”.
Or, grab http://pclinuxos.com and go to the Networking menu.
This has all been done, and is used by 84% of all IPs who serve corporate internet!
And, it’s Free, Open Source Software. FOSS!
